Stand Your Ground, It’s Sacred

Stand your ground. It’s sacred. Don’t you just love this quote? I do. When I think of today’s Motivation Monday, I think of my years of being in student governments and leadership roles. I think of the meetings where I would go in knowing exactly what I want to achieve and what I believe in is right and just, but as the meetings went on problems arose. My foundation was shaken many times. I was challenged.

I was called “too emotional” then “too cold-hearted”. People found me to be “too nice” one moment then after removing myself emotionally and personally, they would say, “You changed. Why are you such a btch now?” There was always someone trying to bring me down or judge me knowing NOTHING about what I did as president of the student government, as vice president of a Southern California region, as a senator going to meetings with administrators and instructors, as a pageant girl, as a student trying to transfer to a university, as a worker, or as a person attempting to maintain a social life outside of school and work… I went through all that (pardon my french) bullsht to learn how important it is to stand my ground despite the opposers, the haters, and the critics. Those days were the hardest when I stood in front of almost 450 other student representatives across the state while they “booed” and shouted for me to sit down as I motioned for a change in a resolution before it was passed.

When something is sacred, it should be venerated. This means a person should respect himself or herself enough to protect where they (literally or figuratively) “stand”.  I know my ground is sacred. I know how important it is to stand up for what is right even when you are alone in doing so. My “ground” is believing in equality for all, global justice, affordable education, feminism, and respect for other people’s opinions. It’s been a journey, but I truly believe I will be successful because of the hardships and good times I experienced. “A successful woman is one who can build a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at her.” I still have no clue who wrote this quote, but I always come back to it because it is my philosophy. Build a firm foundation with the bricks thrown at me. I encourage you to do the same. What ever path you choose to walk in life, know it’s all part of the process for amazing things ahead. Happy Motivation Monday!
