Gurren Lagann Withdrawals

Friday 21 March 2014

WAAAAAAH! I just finished the twenty-seventh/last episode of Gurren Lagann and I am so sad it’s all over! I can’t believe a lot of my favorite characters died, but at least they died with honor. I’m glad Simon survived through the whole series. Yoko is still my favorite spunky sharpshooter. And I’m so glad the writers did a time lapse seven years later to see how a lot of the character grew up (i.e. Darry and Gimmy). Finishing a series and knowing there are no more episodes or seasons anymore always leaves a bittersweet feeling in me. I’m happy the evil alien beings were killed and I love the series overall.

My Super Fangirl Input

Okay, so the reason why I loved this series the most is not just because of the characters, the storyline, and the cool machine-fighting things; but also because it was an example of social and political strifes we see in the world today and in history.  The change of power from Simon to Rossiu when the masses were angry with their leader reminds me of the way people react to change and problems now. Rossiu made a great point, “Because we are a government, they need someone to blame.” So, they blamed Simon… (even though it wasn’t his fault!) Anyway, on a side note, I enjoyed the historical references they made to the underground religion Rossiu came from and I also liked how some of the “bad” guys I thought were bad guys turned out to be allies in the end (meaning Viral and Lordgenome). Last note, I find it really depressing how every guy Yoko kisses… DIES. I know she only kissed Kamina and Kittan, but are you kidding me?! They both died and I really liked them D: That’s all for my venting and my reaction to Gurren Lagann. I will forever recommend it to anyone and everyone who asks me about this series. What are your thoughts on Gurren Lagann?
